The bilateral dialogue came hours after Pakistan offered its territory as a venue for the signing of a potential agreement between Iran and the United States, which would mark a turning point in the Persian Gulf crisis.
U.S. President Donald Trump suspended the military operation Project Freedom in the Strait of Hormuz this week, stating that the decision was in response to an explicit request from Pakistan to facilitate the peace proposal sent by Tehran.
Araqchi thanked Islamabad for facilitating the repatriation of Iranian citizens from previously seized vessels, a gesture that strengthens bilateral cooperation amid regional tensions.
According to Axios news, Washington is awaiting an Iranian response on key points for a final agreement to end the conflict that began on February 28, although there has been no official confirmation yet.
Pakistan has historically played a mediating role in regional conflicts, leveraging its strategic position between Iran, Afghanistan, and China. Islamabad’s offer to host a pact reduces the risk of military escalation in the Gulf.
The current crisis is part of a broader context of tensions between the United States and Iran, where issues such as the Iranian nuclear program, maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, and Tehran’s influence in regional conflicts remain points of contention.
