Swedish driver Felix Rosenqvist, representing Meyer Shank Racing, clinched the legendary Indianapolis 500 today, securing the closest finish in the American circuit’s history by defeating David Malukas by a mere 18 thousandths of a second.
Felix Rosenqvist, 34-year-old driver achieved a historic victory on May 25, on United States soil, conquering the traditional Indiana oval circuit, earning the traditional victory by crossing the iconic brick line with an incredibly narrow margin over his immediate pursuer.
The race was profoundly marked by significant meteorological instability, including intermittent rain, and multiple on-track incidents that necessitated the deployment of nine yellow flags, challenging drivers and teams alike.

The final moments of the championship on the mythical main straight saw David Malukas of Team Penske relegated to the second step of the podium, having relinquished the lead in the decisive final meters of the last lap.
Meanwhile, Mexican driver Pato O’Ward delivered a stellar performance, securing third position for the Arrow McLaren team. His podium finish solidifies Latin American presence at the vanguard of North American motorsport, underscoring the growing regional talent making significant strides on the global stage.
The reigning champion of the category, Spanish driver Álex Palou, finished in a commendable seventh place after an exceptionally demanding day, further showcasing the high level of competition.
The development of the high-speed competition evolved into a complex battle of engineering precision and critical tactical decisions, largely due to the numerous interruptions caused by rain on the Indianapolis oval.
Once the one-hundredth lap was surpassed -the minimum threshold required by race direction to validate official results- teams were compelled to rigorously restructure their pre-planned pit stop strategies. In this scenario of profound uncertainty and shifting conditions, O’Ward’s technical team executed a high-risk strategy, pushing the limits on fuel consumption to strategically position the Mexican single-seater among the leading contenders, a testament to bold tactical thinking.
The race also saw two red flags triggered by severe collisions that significantly decimated several pre-race favorites for the victory. This included highly experienced and seasoned competitors such as Josef Newgarden and Alexander Rossi, who were forced to retire prematurely. Following a 12-minute pause caused by the incidents on the asphalt, the leading positions underwent a dramatic reshuffling, injecting further unpredictability into the event.
The final major impact occurred with only eight laps remaining until the definitive close, when a powerful collision involving Brazilian Caio Collett against the barriers once again compacted the tightly contested pack of aspiring winners, setting the stage for an unforgettable conclusion.
The final neutralization of the track, prompted by the late incidents, effectively nullified the strategic advantages that the front-runners had diligently built following their last stops in the pit garages. Upon the full-speed restart, Malukas expertly capitalized on the resumption of the race to momentarily seize command of the circuit, facing intense pressure from the chasing pack.
However, in a maneuver of extraordinary precision executed upon entering the final straight, Rosenqvist found the optimal external overtaking line. This decisive action allowed him to seal his inaugural and historic victory at the legendary Indianapolis 500, marking a truly unforgettable moment in motorsport history.
