Regional bloc says U.S. actions against Cuba are raising tensions across Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America–People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) condemned what it described as an “illegitimate and illegal” accusation brought by the United States Department of Justice against Cuban revolutionary leader Raúl Castro.

In a statement issued Friday, the Latin American and Caribbean bloc expressed its “deep concern” over recent U.S. economic pressure measures targeting Cuba, one of the founding members of the alliance.

ALBA-TCP also rejected what it described as an escalation in U.S. actions against the island, “including the illegitimate and illegal accusation against the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Army General Raúl Castro Ruz.”

According to the organization, such measures are aimed at “fabricating pretexts for military aggression,” contributing to heightened tensions and an atmosphere of confrontation across the region.

The bloc reaffirmed that Latin America and the Caribbean constitute a Zone of Peace and rejected “any threat, coercive action or attempt at armed aggression against Cuba or any country in the region.”

It further stated that these actions contradict the principles of sovereignty, non-interference and self-determination established in the Charter of the United Nations and international law.

ALBA-TCP called on the United States government to engage with Cuba through “respectful dialogue, free from coercion and unilateral measures, privileging diplomacy, peaceful coexistence and mutual respect.”

The alliance concluded by reiterating its solidarity with the Cuban people and government while reaffirming its commitment to peace, regional integration and the defense of sovereignty in Latin America and the Caribbean.
