This monumental win marks a new chapter in Venezuelan sporting history, sparking widespread national pride and enthusiasm across the country.
In recognition of this significant achievement, Acting President Delcy Rodriguez decreed today a National Day of Jubilee, declaring it a non-working day with the exception of essential services.
“I have decided to decree tomorrow as a National Day of Jubilee, non-working, with the exception of essential service workers, so that our youth can go out into the streets, squares, parks, and fields to celebrate”, she announced via her social media channels.
The official reception of the trophy will commence at the MaiquetÃa International Airport in La Guaira state, from where a series of caravans will embark towards Caracas. Champions Path, Key Players
The Venezuelan team, managed by Omar López, delivered a truly historic performance throughout the WBC tournament.
In the group stage, they demonstrated their dominance by securing impressive victories: 6-2 against the Netherlands, 11-3 against Israel, and 4-0 against Nicaragua. Their only defeat in this phase came against the Dominican Republic team, with a score of 7-5, highlighting the competitive nature of the group.
Advancing to the quarterfinals, Venezuela faced a monumental challenge against Japan, the three-time tournament champions and defending title holders, where Venezuela emerged victorious with an 8-5 score, stunning the baseball world and proving their mettle against one of the sport’s perennial powerhouses. Following this win, the Venezuelan team continued their impressive run by overcoming Italy with a 4-2 victory in the semifinals.
The grand final, held at LoanDepot Park in Miami, pitted Venezuela against the United States. In a tightly contested game, Venezuela ultimately prevailed with a 3-2 score, clinching their first-ever World Baseball Classic title. This victory not only signifies a major achievement for Venezuelan baseball but also solidifies the nation’s place among the elite in international competition, generating immense pride and inspiration for its citizens.
Individual accolades further underscored Venezuela’s exceptional showing. Third baseman Maikel GarcÃa, affectionately known as “El Barrendero” (The Sweeper) of the Kansas City Royals, was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament. GarcÃa’s outstanding offensive performance, leading all players with 10 hits, including eight in the final group stage game against the Dominican Republic, was pivotal to Venezuela’s success. He succeeds Japanese sensation Shohei Ohtani, who was the MVP in 2023, further emphasizing the significance of his achievement.
Additionally, fellow Luis Arráez and Ezequiel Tovar joined GarcÃa on the World Baseball Classic 2026 All-Star Team. Their inclusion among the tournament’s top players solidifies the strong Venezuelan presence and talent recognized on the international stage.
Acting President Delcy RodrÃguez remarked that the triumph reflects “the passion, talent, and unity that characterizes Venezuelans”, echoing the sentiment of “honor to the vanquished and glory to the victor.” In this sense, she emphasized that this victory will forever be etched in the collective memory as a profound symbol of national pride, inspiring future generations.
