In a bold response to recent U.S. sanctions, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has declared the establishment of a new state honor, the “Victoria de Ayacucho,” aimed at recognizing individuals targeted by the sanctions imposed on various Venezuelan officials, writers, military leaders, and police figures.
The announcement was made during a ceremony at the Libertador Air Base, commemorating the 104th anniversary of the Bolivarian Military Aviation and the 32nd anniversary of the civic-military rebellion of November 27, 1992.
President Maduro stated, “I have ordered the creation of this high decoration, named in honor of the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Ayacucho, to be awarded to every Venezuelan who has faced aggression from the imperial regime of the United States.”
During his address,President Maduro condemned the U.S. sanctions as an attack on prominent Venezuelans who embody the spirit of popular leadership and integrity.
He characterized these sanctions as part of a broader imperialist aggression against Venezuela, asserting that while the situation is serious, the absurdity of the sanctions could provoke laughter if it weren’t so grave.
The president expressed his admiration for those newly sanctioned, stating they symbolize a steadfast commitment to defending the nation. “These individuals deserve recognition for their honest and sovereign conduct in defending our homeland during critical historical moments,” he emphasized.
