Social Organizations Convene Binational Meeting for Peace, Sovereignty, and Popular Brotherhood

Social and political organizations from Colombia and Venezuela have convened the Binational Meeting of Brotherhood in Defense of Peace and the Sovereignty of Peoples, scheduled for February 6 and 7 within the framework of the Global Day of Action for Palestine and Venezuela.
According to the call, the attacks and continuous restrictive measures promoted by Donald Trump are not directed only against one country, but constitute an aggression against all of Latin America and the Caribbean.

The organizers reject the attacks against Venezuela, the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores, as well as the threats looming over the people of Colombia, Cuba, and Mexico. From Our America, they appeal for the brotherhood of peoples and emphasize: “Social and political organizations from Colombia and Venezuela have come together to unite our struggles for Peace, Sovereignty, and Self-Determination of Peoples, and to confront the invading imperialist forces that want to continue dispossessing our territories.”
The day’s events include caravans from different regions to Cúcuta, a binational forum on February 6 in Cúcuta, and a political-cultural event on February 7 at the Simón Bolívar International Bridge in Táchira State (bordering San Antonio del Táchira, Venezuela).
The organizers stress that “Peace and Sovereignty of Peoples will not be guaranteed through military agreements with the Americans. They are guaranteed by strengthening the coordination of struggles for the construction of People’s Power.” They added, “Let’s work for #PopularBrotherhood because we, the people, have a duty to liberate ourselves from the oppression of the invading and plundering gringo, and dignity will never be given to us by the powerful. We must wrest it from the unity of the people’s struggle.”
For peace, sovereignty, and the self-determination of peoples, the initiative seeks to strengthen popular organization and confront imperialist policies.
