Iran’s mission to the United Nations accused the United States on Saturday of manipulating several co-sponsors of a unilateral and politically motivated Security Council resolution on the Strait of Hormuz, warning that any country backing the measure will share international responsibility if Washington triggers a new military escalation in the region.
Tehran denounced that the U.S. is trying to project a misleading image of international support for its illegal actions in order to prepare the ground for possible military incursions in the region.

The United States and Bahrain, supported by Arab Gulf countries, are promoting a revised text on security in the strait that emphasizes issues such as seabed mining and new fees. The initial draft included provisions to justify the use of force against Iran — a version rejected by Russia and China, both permanent Security Council members.
The amended text omitted references to Chapter VII of the UN Charter, which authorizes the use of force to reopen strategic waterways. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Qatar are among the main countries backing the U.S. draft. Iran warned that if the U.S. escalates, the resolution’s backers will not be able to escape legal and political consequences.
