The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has rejected Israel’s claims that UNRWA staff in Gaza are affiliated with Hamas or other Palestinian resistance groups. ICJ President Yuji Iwasawa emphasized that Israel failed to provide credible evidence to support these accusations.

The court ruled that Tel Aviv’s regime must allow humanitarian aid into the besieged Gaza Strip and ensure Palestinians have access to basic necessities for survival. This decision comes amid a dire humanitarian crisis caused by Israel’s ongoing genocide, despite a recent ceasefire deal, which has led to widespread suffering and violations of international law.

Norway, which requested the ICJ advisory opinion, announced plans to push a UN General Assembly resolution demanding that the Zionist entity lift restrictions on aid delivery. The move underscores the international community’s recognition of Israel’s responsibility under international law to facilitate humanitarian relief.

Since the fragile ceasefire, UN agencies have increased deliveries into Gaza, but aid remains far below the amounts required. The UN World Food Programme reported that 530 trucks have entered Gaza, with a daily delivery of around 750 tonnes—still well short of the 2,000 tonnes needed to meet urgent needs.

The ICJ ruling affirms that the Zionist blockade constitutes collective punishment against civilians and that interference with humanitarian operations is unlawful.

Aid organizations continue to work under extreme constraints to provide food, water, and medical supplies to Gaza’s population. The ICJ ruling strengthens the legal and moral imperative for Israel to allow unimpeded humanitarian access and prevent further civilian suffering.
