During the presentation of the annual report on the damage caused to the Caribbean nation by the US government’s economic, commercial, and financial blockade, the Foreign Minister linked this escalation to Washington’s policy of aggression, which he described as a direct violation of regional stability.

Rodríguez recalled that the military maneuvers coincide with statements by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who, during recent visits to Israel and other international venues, has insisted on the need to intensify pressure against Caracas.

According to the Cuban Foreign Minister, these types of statements not only aim to justify coercive measures and sanctions, but are part of a strategy of economic and military warfare to control Venezuela’s energy resources, including the world’s largest proven oil reserves.

The Cuban Foreign Minister also denounced that these actions seek to revive the Monroe Doctrine and implement “gunboat policies” in the 21st century.

In this regard, he emphasized that the interception of fishing vessels, naval blockades, and operations in the waters of the eastern Caribbean are part of an offensive that threatens not only Venezuela, but also Cuba and the entire region.

In his speech, Rodríguez recalled that Latin America and the Caribbean were proclaimed a Zone of Peace by CELAC in 2014, a commitment that obliges all states to resolve their differences through dialogue, respect national sovereignty, and reject any attempt at foreign intervention. “A military aggression against Venezuela would be an aggression against the entire region,” he warned.

The Venezuelan Foreign Minister called on the international community, parliaments, social movements, and governments to mobilize in defense of peace and international law. “The United States seeks to start a war in our region under the false pretexts of national security. It is urgent to stop this escalation before its consequences become irreversible,” he concluded.
