On Monday, Colombian authorities announced they captured alias Correa, the leader of the urban militias of the Jaime Martinez structure of the Central General Staff (EMC), the main dissident group of the the defunct Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).

The arrest took place at El Plateado, in the department of Cauca, after three months of military and police intelligence work. According to General Samuel Salinas, alias Correa carried out criminal intelligence activities, planning, and detonating explosive devices against the security forces.

General Carlos German Oviedo indicated that Correa’s participation in at least five terrorist attacks in 2025 was documented, and he was therefore remanded in custody.

Cauca remains an epicenter of the Colombian armed conflict, exacerbated in recent years by the strengthening of illegal armed groups following the 2016 peace agreement.

Meanwhile, President Abelardo de la Espriella announced the seizure of more than four tons of cocaine in the municipality of Turbo. The operation resulted in the capture of five people, including a Honduran citizen, and the confiscation of 4,022 packages of cocaine hidden in 126 bundles aboard a vessel.

Colombia registered approximately 261,000 hectares of coca crops in 2024, a 3.5% increase compared to 2023, according to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) data published in July.

On Monday, three soldiers were killed and three others wounded in explosive attacks in La Macarena, Meta, attributed to the Jorge Suarez Briceño bloc of the EMC.
