On Tuesday, Trump announced a new military attack in Caribbean waters.

On Wednesday, China condemned external interference in Venezuela’s internal affairs and the use of force in international relations, after U.S. President Donald Trump announced a U.S. military attack on a vessel near the Venezuelan coast.

“China supports the declaration of Latin America and the Caribbean as a zone of peace and the statement establishing a nuclear-weapon-free zone with 33 Latin American and Caribbean countries,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said.

“China opposes actions that undermine peace and stability in the region. It also opposes so-called unilateral U.S. law enforcement actions against foreign vessels that exceed reasonable and necessary limits,” he added.

“China urges the United States to maintain normal police and judicial cooperation through relevant bilateral and multilateral frameworks,” the Chinese diplomat emphasized.

On Tuesday, Trump announced that the U.S. military had carried out another strike on a ship in the Caribbean, near the Venezuelan coast, and confirmed the deaths of six alleged “narcoterrorists.”

U.S. intelligence “confirmed that the vessel was trafficking narcotics, was linked to illicit narcoterrorist networks and was traveling along a known route” associated with drug cartels, Trump said, without offering evidence.

This attack is the latest in at least five operations the U.S. has conducted since September against alleged “narco-boats” in the Caribbean—three near Venezuela and one near the Dominican Republic.

The U.S. military deployment in Caribbean waters, justified as part of anti-narcotics operations, has been criticized by Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, who has warned that such deployment poses a threat of a possible attack against his country.
