The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of America (ALBA), a coalition of ten Latin American and Caribbean nations warned that the deployment of U.S. warships and nuclear submarines in the Caribbean Sea poses a grave threat to regional stability.
The organization denounced the U.S. operation as a violation of the 1967 Treaty of Tlatelolco, which designates Latin America and the Caribbean as a nuclear weapons-free zone. The alliance argued that such maneuvers jeopardize peace and contravene international agreements.
“These provocative actions won’t intimidate our nations—they only strengthen our commitment to unity, cooperation, and peaceful dialogue,” the group said. ALBA called for an immediate halt to what it described as a “hostile policy,” urging Washington to respect the sovereignty and independence of states across the region.
Member states of the alliance include Cuba, Venezuela, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Dominica, Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Grenada, and Saint Lucia.
Venezuelan officials called on the U.S. to immediately withdraw its military assets and to offer “clear and verifiable guarantees” that it will not deploy or threaten the use of nuclear weapons in the region.
