The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA-TCP) has condemned the killing of six Palestinian journalists in Gaza, including Al Jazeera correspondent Anas Jamal al-Sharif, describing the attack as part of a deliberate campaign to silence media coverage of the Israeli offensive.

In a statement issued on August 12 from Caracas, the regional bloc denounced an Israeli strike on a clearly marked press tent near Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza that killed al-Sharif, four of his Al Jazeera colleagues, and a reporter from Palestinian outlet Sahat.

ALBA-TCP described the events in Gaza as a “planned and ongoing genocide” and the targeted killing of journalists as a “deliberate policy of forced silencing” intended to prevent the world from learning the scale of crimes committed by the occupying power. The statement noted that since October 2023, 238 journalists have been killed in Gaza.

The bloc accused Israel of transforming the Gaza Strip into “a laboratory of crimes against humanity,” systematically violating international humanitarian law and the UN Charter. It declared that those responsible for killing Palestinians and obstructing the work of journalists documenting the conflict are “war criminals and perpetrators of genocide.”

Calling the death of al-Sharif a moral and political imperative to act, ALBA-TCP reaffirmed its “unbreakable and irrevocable” commitment to the Palestinian cause. It demanded the immediate cessation of the genocide, the complete lifting of the siege, and the end of the occupation “until Palestine is free, sovereign, and living in peace.”
