Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Viacheslav Volodin, chairman of the Russian State Duma, in Beijing on Monday, as part of an official visit by the Russian parliamentary delegation that began on August 25. The visit was held at the invitation of Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of China’s National People’s Congress.

Volodin, who leads the Russian delegation, described the meeting as a reaffirmation of the growing partnership between Moscow and Beijing. “In a context of challenges and threats, the comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation between Russia and China only continue to strengthen,” he said.

The visit includes a series of meetings and the tenth session of the interparliamentary commission between China’s National People’s Congress and Russia’s Federal Assembly. Officials are expected to discuss the progress of interparliamentary collaboration and to advance cooperation in areas such as security, the economy, education, tourism, science, and culture.

Volodin highlighted that relations between the two nations are based on “the principles of friendship and trust, mutually beneficial cooperation, non-interference in the affairs of sovereign states,” and “the absence of double standards.”
