FM Yvan Gil denounces Washington’s lies and reaffirms Latin America as a Peace Zone.

On Monday, Venezuelan Foreign Affairs Minister Yvan Gil took part in a special meeting of foreign ministers from the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), held on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly.

During his address, the Bolivarian diplomat thanked CELAC member countries that recently issued a statement firmly defending Latin America and the Caribbean as a “Zone of Peace.”

Gil also criticized the deployment of U.S. military forces in the Caribbean Sea, describing it as part of a U.S. strategy that might destabilize the region.

“The deployment is based on a great lie, built on the pretext of combating drug trafficking and falsely accusing Venezuela of facilitating these routes,” the Bolivarian official said.

“I recall that reports presented earlier this year in this same UN venue declared Venezuela a territory free of production, transit, and money laundering linked to drug trafficking,” he added, noting that UN reports have revealed that 87% of drugs bound for the United States transit through the Pacific Ocean.

“These figures are also backed by U.S. agencies themselves, such as the DEA and the State Department. That shows the great lie being woven about Venezuela, used as an argument to threaten the Zone of Peace,” Gil pointed out.

“We have chosen peace. Between Venezuela and the United States, what exists is aggression from the north against a sovereign country. This meeting calls us to take a step forward and seek peace above any differences we may have,” he added.
