The UN-Venezuela relationship has evolved from addressing emergencies toward a large-scale strategic cooperation model.

In the early hours of Monday, Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodriguez arrived in New Jersey with the purpose of beginning a work agenda she will carry out in New York City.

This week, she will participate in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), where the Venezuelan leader will pursue an agenda focused on “Diplomacy of Peace,” the defense of sovereignty and the consolidation of multilateralism.

The presence of the high-level Venezuelan delegation projects a firm, active and constructive foreign policy, attending the international gathering with the backing of macroeconomic indicators of recovery.

According to projections presented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Venezuela expects growth of nearly 7.4% in gross domestic product (GDP) in 2026, driven by solid expansion of the non-oil sector of more than 6.9%.

This growth outlook demonstrates the effectiveness of the productive diversification model and reaffirms that international dialogue and the defense of the UN Charter generate mutually beneficial alliances and tangible results for the Venezuelan nation.

During the UNGA sessions, Venezuela will advocate for global priorities such as balanced productive growth, environmental protection, peace, and fair governance of emerging technologies and artificial intelligence to close development gaps in the Global South.

Strategic Evolution of Bilateral Cooperation

The relationship between Venezuela and the United Nations system has evolved from addressing emergencies on a short-term basis toward a large-scale strategic cooperation model. This framework is focused on three fundamental pillars: sustainable development, technology transfer and strengthening the social protection system for the Venezuelan people.

This synergy was consolidated following the institutional and technical response to the earthquakes that struck the South American country in June. Through the scientific and logistical deployment coordinated between national authorities and the team of U.N. Resident Coordinator Gianluca Rampolla, broad guidelines for housing recovery were developed for affected communities.

“We want to express our special gratitude to the United Nations, represented by Resident Coordinator Gianluca Rampolla, for the immediate deployment and technical-humanitarian support following the seismic event. This scientific and logistical coordination demonstrates the value of multilateralism rooted in solidarity,” Rodriguez previously said during working meetings at the Miraflores Palace in Caracas.

Post-Disaster Assessment and Vision for the Future

As part of the Peace Diplomacy’s road map, Venezuelan officials held key meetings with UNDP Regional Director Michelle Muschett, advancing the presentation of the Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA).

This methodology makes it possible to accurately quantify the socioeconomic impact of the natural disaster in order to direct public investment toward infrastructure reconstruction under standards of resilience and environmental sustainability.

“We held an extraordinary working meeting with UNDP Regional Director Michelle Muschett to assess the response and recovery plan following the earthquakes. Venezuela reaffirms its commitment to multilateralism to advance toward resilient infrastructure and guarantee social protection for our people,” the Venezuelan Acting President stressed.

Rodriguez Meets with IDB President

On Monday, Venezuelan Acting President Rodriguez met with Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) President Ilan Goldfajn in New York.

Their meeting’s main objective was to assess mechanisms for strategic cooperation between the Venezuelan nation and the international financial institution.

During the dialogue, Rodriguez reaffirmed that Venezuela promotes international ties aimed at financing productive growth and consolidating strategic global alliances.
