Venezuela Strengthens Alliances With Nigeria and Ghana in High-Level Talks

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil announced a series of diplomatic engagements with African nations, such as Ghana and Nigeria, on Friday, March 20, reaffirming the Bolivarian Republic’s commitment to South-South cooperation during the High-Level Forum CELAC-Africa in Bogota.


The diplomatic push, detailed by Gil on social media, highlighted Venezuela’s strategy to consolidate multipolar alliances with African nations, focusing on sectors ranging from agriculture and energy to technology and culture.

Gil reported a significant bilateral meeting with Nigeria’s Foreign Minister, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, on the sidelines of the forum. According to the Venezuelan minister, the conversation centered on the “excellent state” of bilateral relations between the two nations.

Both officials reaffirmed their commitment to advancing regional integration, which Gil described as essential for guaranteeing full sovereignty and building a multipolar world. The officials identified energy, the economy, technology, industry, agriculture, education, and culture as key areas for future strategic alliances.

In a separate engagement at the Bogotá forum, Gil met with Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. The Venezuelan Foreign Minister stated that the two leaders “reaffirmed our brotherhood” and expressed a mutual willingness to explore new avenues for cooperation, with the goal of establishing strategic partnerships between Caracas and Accra.

Additionally, Minister Gil used his platform to send a formal greeting to the government and people of Tunisia. In his message, he commemorated the North African nation’s 70th anniversary of independence, celebrating the milestone as a testament to Tunisia’s consolidation as a sovereign nation built through popular will and effort.
