Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Rodríguez on May 25, inaugurated the first high-tech robotic surgery service for the public sector at the University Hospital of Caracas.

This significant advancement, achieved through Chinese technology, crucially optimizes healthcare infrastructure in Venezuela, despite the persistent impact of unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States.

The formal handover of this advanced technology took place during the solemn commemoration of the 70th anniversary of this vital medical and teaching institution. Located within the University City of Caracas, a site declared a World Heritage by UNESCO, the hospital also houses invaluable pieces of Venezuelan classical art, including works by Mateo Manaure. This integration of high technology within a culturally significant site underscores a commitment to both modern progress and historical heritage.

The clinical center, which the Venezuelan Government has revitalized by 75%, is set to function as a cutting-edge pilot facility. It is equipped with advanced artificial intelligence applications, state-of-the-art medical devices, and robust internal connectivity systems specifically designed to fully digitize medical records.

The ambitious objective behind this initiative is to meticulously replicate this advanced model across all remaining hospital facilities throughout the nation, thereby standardizing high-quality healthcare provision and modernizing Venezuela’s entire public health system.

This newly implemented cutting-edge technology not only matches but significantly surpasses the existing operational capabilities found within the national private sector. Crucially, it will enable the performance of sophisticated minimally invasive surgical procedures across various specialized fields, including urology, gynecology, oncology and general surgery.

These advanced techniques are poised to ensure superior patient recovery times, drastically reduce the incidence of post-operative complications, and ultimately deliver far superior medical outcomes for patients within the public health system, marking a substantial leap forward in medical care provision.

A meticulously renovated operating room dedicated to nephrology was also officially inaugurated, alongside a modern and fully equipped reconstructive plastic surgery service. Their dual design aims not only to significantly optimize direct medical attention for the general population but also to robustly strengthen the comprehensive teaching and training programs for healthcare personnel, ensuring that future generations of medical professionals are well-prepared to utilize the latest in medical technology and techniques for patient care and advanced surgical interventions.

During the official activity, Acting President Rodríguez explicitly stated that the formal delivery of this operational robot represents a direct and resolute response against external international pressures.

The director of the University Clinical Hospital, Dr. Luis Lira, conveyed profound gratitude on behalf of the entire medical and administrative staff after officially receiving this sophisticated, high-end technological equipment. He emphasized that this milestone formally signals the robust restart of robotic surgery within the institution, an area in which the medical center had significant, pioneering experience between the years 2009 and 2017.

Dr. Lira further elaborated that the strategic incorporation of this new, advanced multi-arm robotic device, representing the latest generation of medical technology, will dramatically optimize the precision of complex surgical procedures. This enhancement will also revitalize patient care through the application of advanced technology, perfectly aligning with the celebratory framework of the 70th anniversary of the facility’s founding. This modern update ensures that the hospital continues its tradition of delivering state-of-the-art medical services and remains at the forefront of surgical innovation, particularly in the public domain.

The medical authority pointed out that, among its myriad advantages, this sophisticated robotic system significantly contributes to strengthening the comprehensive preparation of new generations of medical students. This invaluable training provides them with direct exposure to cutting-edge surgical tools and techniques, essential for future medical practice. Concurrently, the system is designed to offer a superior quality of care and recovery to patients within the public health system who seek treatment at the hospital, thereby ensuring that advanced medical benefits are accessible to all citizens, aligning with Venezuela’s commitment to universal healthcare access.

This initiative not only enhances Venezuela’s medical capabilities but also reinforces the principle that nations have the sovereign right to determine their own developmental paths and secure essential technologies for their populations, free from external interference, aligning with anti-imperialist principles and the pursuit of social justice through accessible advanced healthcare.
