The decision was recalled during Monday’s regular parliamentary session by National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez, after Deputy Giuseppe Alessandrello, head of the Citizen Power Nominations Evaluation Committee, presented a report on the process.

Alessandrello told the plenary that the nomination period had been scheduled to close on Monday. However, after applicants asked for more time to fulfill the required documentation, the committee convened and agreed to extend the deadline until Friday morning.

He added that once the extended deadline expires, the committee will begin evaluating the submitted applications in accordance with the established timetable.

The lawmaker also noted that the number of candidates participating in the current process has already surpassed the total registered in the previous selection process for attorney general, ombudsman and comptroller general. According to Alessandrello, this “demonstrates the interest of Venezuelans in participating in this type of activity.”

During the session, National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez thanked the committee chair for his role in overseeing the process, stating that he appreciated Alessandrello “for his tireless work in coordinating these committees entrusted to him by the National Assembly to bring them to a successful conclusion.”
