The President of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro Moros, attended the installation of the National Electoral Commission this Wednesday, marking a significant step towards the election of Justices of the Peace in the country.

During his speech, the President emphasized that this process marks the beginning of “a path to building the foundations of the new state.”

Maduro recalled the historical importance of the event, noting that it represents a milestone in the struggle to close the former mafia congress of the Fourth Republic and open the way to the popular constituent process. “We were here as constituents, opening the doors to legislative spaces that had been closed to the people and promoting the social movement with the 1999 Constitution,” he said.

Five thousand communal circuits will be defined, covering 3,643 communes and groupings of communal councils.

Young people over 15 years old must present their laminated identity card to participate in the election, scheduled for next November 15, where three Justices of the Peace and their respective alternates will be chosen in each circuit.

In total, 30,000 female and senior judges are expected to be elected, equally distributed between men and women.
