Venezuela’s Strategic Comprehensive Defense Regions (Redi, in Spanish) began the formal deployment of the Plan Republica operation on Friday, mobilizing troops across multiple zones to secure the National Popular Consultation scheduled for this Sunday, March 8.
The military operation, a customary security measure to keep a safe environment amid Venezuelan elections, was activated in the Western, Los Andes, Los Llanos, and Central regions to protect voters and voting centers.

Officials confirmed that operational units are now supervising the perimeters of polling stations, ensuring public order, and safeguarding citizens as they prepare to cast their ballots.
In addition to security duties, military personnel are providing technical and logistical support to the National Electoral Council, the governing body overseeing the process.
Redi Los Andes No. 2 and Redi Los Llanos No. 3 have been tasked with accompanying the transfer of technological materials, protecting electoral kits, and maintaining custody of voting centers. In the central region, Redi No. 4 activated officers specifically to monitor election developments and prevent any disruptions to public order.
The institutional coordination between the Electoral Power and the armed forces is part of a broader effort to strengthen sovereignty and guarantee that the electoral day proceeds “with clarity, transparency, and respect for current regulations,” according to military statements.
The National Electoral Council confirmed it has the full support of troops for logistics and security, including the transport of voting technology and the protection of sensitive electoral materials.
