Venezuela has activated all multilateral mechanisms in accordance with international law for the immediate cessation of the illegitimate and illicit action that represents U.S. threat against national airspace.


Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has directed the implementation of a “special plan” to bring home citizens stranded abroad following widespread flight suspensions, an outcome of the U.S. compliance with “Maria Corina Machado’s request to try to block Venezuelan airspace”, reported the Fist Executive Vice President Delcy Rodriguez.

“President Nicolas Maduro has ordered a special plan for the return of Venezuelans stranded in other countries, as well as to facilitate the departure itineraries of those who must travel outside our territory”, Rodriguez said in a message posted on her social network profiles.

She further noted that Venezuela has activated all multilateral mechanisms in accordance with international law for “the immediate cessation of this illegitimate and unlawful action.”

U.S. President Donald Trump, in a move out of his jurisdiction, urged worldwide pilots and airlines on Saturday to consider Venezuelan airspace closed.

“To all airlines, pilots, drug traffickers, and human traffickers: we ask that you consider the airspace above and surrounding Venezuela to be closed in its entirety”, reads the message posted on his profile in Truth Social network, which does not clarify any circumstances related to the closure.

Venezuelan Minister of Foreign Affairs Yvan Gil denounced that such statements from Trump was “a colonialist threat” that aims to undermine the nation’s sovereignty, which he further deemed illegal.

A communiqué issued by the Ministry also addresses how Washington’s acts are “clearly and unequivocally prohibited by the United Nations (UN).”

Article 2(4) of the UN Charter stipulates that “all members shall refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any State, or in any other manner inconsistent with the Purposes of the United Nations.”

Last week, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) alleged a “potentially hazardous situation” in Venezuelan airspace, prompting indefinite flight suspensions to the South American country from several airlines.

Caracas gave them a 48-hour deadline to resume operations, and when they did not, it revoked the traffic permits of Iberia, Turkish Airlines, Gol, Avianca, TAP, and Latam Colombia over state-terrorism motives.

However, despite U.S. escalating threats, companies like Copa, Wingo, Boliviana de Aviacion, Satena, Avior, and Conviasa continue operating in the country.

The Venezuelan Minister of Defense Vladimir Padrino Lopez stated that Venezuela will defend its sovereignty “at any cost”, as it will respond to this new destabilization plot with “dignity, legality, and the moral strength of a people that will never allow its honor to be tarnished.”
