This Wednesday, the White House announced that US President Donald Trump signed a presidential memorandum ordering the withdrawal of the United States from 66 international organizations, claiming that they “no longer serve US interests.”
According to the official statement, 31 of these entities belong to the United Nations (UN) and 35 are independent bodies.

The document states that these organizations “operate in a manner contrary to US national interests, security, economic prosperity, or sovereignty,” and that their funding by US taxpayers will end immediately. The measure is part of a broader policy that, according to the administration, seeks to “prevent globalist agendas from prevailing over national priorities.”
This decision is part of a series of executive actions taken at the beginning of Trump’s second term, including the repeal of 78 executive orders issued by his predecessor, Joe Biden, and the announcement of the U.S. withdrawal from the Paris Agreement on climate change, which the president described as “unfair” and “unilateral.”
Trump also ordered federal employees to return to their offices and ended policies that, according to his administration, contributed to inflation by 2024. In January, he also began the process of withdrawing the U.S. from the World Health Organization (WHO), a move already taken during his first term.
Tedroes Adhanom, WHO Director-General, expressed concern about the decision: “For more than seven decades, the WHO and the United States have saved countless lives and protected Americans and all people from health threats.”
