On Wednesday, the White House asserted that the draft agreement between the United States and Iran, which allegedly included the reopening of the strategic Strait of Hormuz, is fake.

Iran Demands Concrete U.S. Steps for Peace Talks

Previously, the Iranian state television reported that a one-page document was a preliminary outline of a memorandum of understanding between the two rivals. The text of the alleged draft agreement stipulated the reopening of commercial traffic through the Strait of Hormuz by Tehran, in exchange for the lifting of the U.S. blockade on Iranian ships and the withdrawal of troops from the area.

The one-page document indicated that after the implementation of these initial measures, both nations would have 60 days to negotiate the remaining outstanding issues, including the Iranian nuclear program, a topic that would be addressed in a later phase of the talks. This approach reflects the intensification of diplomatic efforts in recent days to reopen the strait, postponing nuclear discussions.

For his part, the Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, Ebrahim Azizi, stated that Iran will not make any decisions without fully guaranteeing its fundamental interests and those of its citizens.

This stance underscores Tehran’s firm commitment to national sovereignty and dignity within the framework of ongoing international negotiations, emphasizing that any progress depends on solid guarantees for Iran’s fundamental priorities.

Azizi also clarified that the current situation imperatively demands that the United States take concrete steps to build trust between the two nations. This call for tangible actions underscores Tehran’s skepticism regarding Washington’s commitment and its insistence on verifiable gestures of good faith.

The Trump administration’s most recent statements highlight the lack of trust between the parties as a significant obstacle. which Iran and the international community expect the United States to overcome through demonstrable policy changes and genuine respect for sovereign rights, considering the historical context of previous agreements and their subsequent abrogation.

These diplomatic developments are unfolding against a precarious backdrop, with armed actions taking place around the Strait of Hormuz, a globally strategic waterway for oil transport. These incidents are occurring within the framework of a fragile ceasefire.
