At least five people were killed early Tuesday morning in a U.S. airstrike that targeted a home in the Iraqi capital, according to sources from the country’s Interior Ministry. Among the dead are two senior commanders of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), a state-sponsored militia coalition, and an Iranian adviser.
The strike, conducted by US aircraft, completely destroyed the residence in the Jadriya district, located in central Baghdad near the heavily fortified Green Zone. The area hosts multiple foreign embassies, including the United States Embassy.

Sabah al Numan, spokesperson for Iraqi Prime Minister Mohamed Shia al Sudani, issued a strongly worded statement denouncing what he called “treacherous attacks” against the Popular Mobilization Forces. The PMF is a coalition of mostly Shia militias with close ties to Tehran, though it formally operates as part of Iraq’s Armed Forces.
He specifically referenced recent strikes on the Majnoon oil field, the Al Rasheed International Hotel, and the US Embassy in Baghdad, describing them as “criminal acts” with grave repercussions for the country that undermine government reconstruction efforts.
Since the joint Washington-Tel Aviv war against Iran started on February 28, local authorities report that multiple installations belonging to Iran-aligned Iraqi militias have been hit by missiles and airstrikes “probably” originating from either Israel or the United States. The Iraqi government has repeatedly stated its opposition to its territory being used to launch attacks against neighboring countries and has formally protested violations
