Israeli gunfire killed two UNICEF-contracted workers early Friday as they transported water to a displacement camp in northern Gaza, the United Nations agency confirmed. The attack occurred at the Mansoura filling point, the only potable water source for the area.
The agency reported that the victims died when Israeli soldiers opened fire at the water filling station, which serves as the sole source of potable water for the surrounding area. Two additional workers sustained injuries in the same attack.
Despite the lethal attack, UNICEF stated that water distribution operations have continued without interruption, though contractors operating in the vicinity have been instructed to temporarily suspend activities pending a security reassessment.
UNICEF expressed outrage over the killings and has formally petitioned Israeli authorities to conduct an immediate investigation and ensure full accountability for the deaths. The Mansoura facility is critical infrastructure for a population already enduring severe water scarcity, with current supplies relying on limited deliveries from the Israeli company Mekorot to Gaza City.
Humanitarian operations across the enclave remain constrained by Zionist-imposed restrictions that limit both the entry of essential supplies and the number of trucks permitted to move.
Friday’s attack follows a similar deadly incident on April 6, when a World Health Organization driver was killed and two medical workers wounded after a patient transport convoy came under fire at the Rafah crossing en route to Egypt.
