Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum declared this Friday that her meeting with US President Donald Trump in Washington, the first between the two, was “very good” and that they agreed to “continue working together” on trade issues.

“Good, very good.” “We agreed to continue working together on trade issues with our teams,” Sheinbaum responded when asked after the 2026 World Cup draw ceremony, where she met with Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
The president made this brief statement upon arriving at the Mexican Cultural Institute in Washington for a meeting with the Mexican community in the United States.
The meeting comes after Trump indicated on Wednesday that he might let the free trade agreement with Mexico and Canada, which is due for review in 2026, expire, and that he will seek a new trade agreement with his neighbors.
