Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said Tuesday that U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan to send military strikes against alleged drug cartel facilities and leaders in Mexican territory “is not going to happen.”

“It’s not going to happen. We have an understanding on security that we worked on for many months with the United States government and we agreed on it when the Secretary of State (Marco Rubio) was there. And we are going to continue working within that framework of understanding,” the president said during her daily press conference.

The Mexican leader’s reaction comes after NBC revealed Trump’s alleged plans on Monday, in what would be an expansion of his anti-drug operation in the Caribbean and the Pacific.

Sheinbaum defended Mexico’s sovereignty over territoriality, and emphasized that with the United States there is “collaboration and coordination without subordination.”

“So, that is not going to happen, we do not have any report that this is going to happen. In addition, we do not agree and we have raised it with President Trump,” she concluded.

Sheinbaum insisted that it is about sharing information and conducting training on both sides of the border, in addition to reinforcing the seizures of weapons that come from the United States.

“It has been clear that, that we do not agree with any process of interference or interventionism, that we collaborate, coordinate and we are a sovereign state,” he said. According to information revealed by NBC, Trump’s plan includes sending troops and intelligence officers to Mexico, although he does not specify a clear date for the start of the mission.

For her part, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt assured that President Donald Trump is satisfied with the coordination offered by Sheinbaum and recalled that they continue to put pressure on Mexico.
