President Sheinbaum says the band accepted an invitation to return after fans demanded more concerts in Mexico City.

On Thursday, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed that BTS, the world’s most recognized K-pop group, will return to her country in 2027.

Her announcement came during a conference in the Mexican capital, where she shared a video of her meeting with the members of the Korean group at National Palace.

Sheinbaum said she made the proposal directly to the band after conveying to them “a popular demand” from their Mexican fans, known as Army, who for months had been asking for more concerts because of the high demand for tickets to their performances in Mexico City.

“I made them a proposal: would you like to return to Mexico next year?” Sheinbaum said, adding that the BTS members responded affirmatively, although they still need to review their schedule.

President Claudia Sheinbaum’s text reads, “With beautiful simplicity, BTS greeted their ARMY and nearly 50,000 people who gathered in Zocalo Square to greet them. It gives me great joy to have been able to give you this moment of jubilation. The group transmits positive messages in their songs that promote a culture of peace and inclusion.”

On Wednesday, the president received the Korean band at the headquarters of Mexico’s executive branch after sending a letter to South Korean President Lee Jae-myung to express the concerns of thousands of fans over the shortage of tickets and request assistance so the group could greet their Mexican fans.

According to Sheinbaum, the visit was made possible with support from the South Korean government and Culture Secretary Claudia Curiel. The president said nearly 50,000 people gathered around the Zocalo to see the band, whose members came out to greet fans from one of the building’s balconies.

“Mexico has an energy that no other place in the world has,” Sheinbaum said, describing the BTS members as young men who are “simple, modest and calm.”

The president also highlighted BTS’ cultural impact on Mexican youth and said their songs promote messages of peace, mental health and love.

The South Korean band, one of the world’s most recognized K-pop groups, last visited Mexico eight years ago, before its members completed mandatory military service in South Korea and later resumed activities as a group.
