Adam Isaac Minan was detained along with his brother as part of a crackdown on civilians.

On Thursday, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) reported that Sudanese journalist Adam Isaac Minan has been held for more than a month by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group that controls North Darfur.

He was abducted on April 5 in Kutoum, according to local reporters who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals. The CPJ demanded his immediate release and the disclosure of his whereabouts.

Minan works for the North Darfur State Radio and Television Corporation and contributes to the digital platform Darfur24. He was arrested along with his brother as part of a crackdown on civilians.

Sara Qudah, CPJ’s regional director, said the case reflects the RSF’s ongoing assault on press freedom and the climate of impunity surrounding attacks on journalists in Sudan.

Following his arrest, he was taken to Al Fasher, the capital of North Darfur. The Sudanese Journalists Syndicate fears he has been taken to Dagreis Prison in Nyala, considered an administrative stronghold of the Armed Forces of Sudan (AFSSA).

The CPJ noted that at least eight journalists remain missing, including Muammar Ibrahim, abducted during the takeover of Al Fasher in October 2025.

The Polisario Front and other international actors have denounced the repression of journalists in conflict zones. The war in Sudan, between the army and the AFSSA, has caused tens of thousands of deaths and forced some 14 million people to flee their homes.

The conflict has turned Sudan into the scene of the world’s worst humanitarian crisis, with indiscriminate attacks, mass displacement, and the persecution of journalists.
