‘Our electoral system has been built to provide the greatest transparency in every event,’ FM Yvan Gil said.

On Wednesday, Venezuelan Foreign Affairs Minister Yvan Gil held a meeting with the diplomats accredited in his country and provided them with an overview of the democratic process that will culminate in the presidential elections on July 28.

He recalled that Venezuela has consolidated a participatory democracy over the last 25 years, despite all the difficulties caused by over 930 arbitrary sanctions imposed by the United States against his nation.

“The Venezuelan electoral system is transparent and auditable. It is perhaps one of the world’s most perfect systems,” Gil stressed, mentioning that electoral experts from the United Nations, the Carter Center, the African Union, and 65 countries will be present in Venezuela on July 28.

“Our electoral system has been built to provide the greatest transparency in every event,” he said, highlighting that 635 international observers will accompany the upcoming elections.

“It will be an electoral celebration in which, with enthusiasm and happiness, we open our doors for the world to see the process and what will happen in Venezuela.”

Foreign Minister Gil also rejected the plans that the Venezuelan far-right is attempting to develop to destabilize the legitimately constituted government.

He recalled that the Colombian paramilitary group known as the Conquering Self-Defense Forces of the Sierra seeks to attack the electrical infrastructure, generate urban protests, and attempt an attack against President Nicolas Maduro in case the Bolivarian leader is re-elected.

“After reviewing all the information, we can assure that the data is accurate and provides all the elements to initiate a criminal investigation, as announced by Attorney General Tarek William Saab,” said Gil.
