Nicaraguan co-presidents Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo presided over the 28th graduation ceremony for cadets at the Leonel Rugama Police Science University on Thursday at the Olof Palme Convention Center.

During his address, Co-President Ortega denounced and rejected the United States’ military attack on Venezuela and the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores, calling these acts “terrorism” and demanding their release.

“The United States is after our oil,” he stated, while also calling for action in international organizations to defend respect for peace and the sovereignty of nations, including before the International Court of Justice for violations committed by the U.S. He also reiterated the injustice of the U.S. blockade against Cuba, noting: “Sixty years of this blockade, terrible; it harms the entire Cuban people.”

He also recalled the generosity of President Hugo Chávez, who donated power plants that, he said, have allowed Nicaragua to sustain its energy development for 19 years and expand its industrial activity.

The Nicaraguan leader gave a historical overview of global conflicts, including the two world wars, the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, and the Vietnam War, linking them to what he described as “imperialist crimes” in the pursuit of world domination. He also invoked the poet Rubén Darío and his plea for peace.

The Nicaraguan president reiterated his commitment to national reconciliation, highlighting the alliance between the people, unions, and business leaders since 2007, which, he said, has enabled the country’s growth and development.

The 39 new cadets received their diplomas at a graduation ceremony dedicated to the Guerrilla Poet Leonel Rugama and the Heroes of San José de las Mulas.

The ceremony was attended by high-ranking military, police, and government officials from the Government of Reconciliation and National Unity.
