The Co-Presidents stated that the organization does not respond to contemporary emergencies.
On Friday, Nicaraguan Co-President Rosario Murillo reaffirmed her support for Venezuela and urged a reorganization of the United Nations to guarantee respect for international law and the equality of states.

She stated that the current UN does not respond to contemporary emergencies and must be transformed. Co-President Daniel Ortega cited the votes against the U.S. blockade of Cuba and the critical situation of the Palestinian people as examples of ineffectiveness.
Ortega pointed out that in each vote, almost all countries support lifting the blockade, while the United States, Israel, and a few others vote against it, which demonstrates Washington’s isolation on this issue.
While the campaign to reform the UN was initiated by Ortega, Murillo emphasized the importance of internal unity and that the true victory is “overcoming poverty.” Later, she expressed solidarity with the peoples of Bolivia and Venezuela.
She recognized Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro’s efforts for peace and regional unity, and reaffirmed her commitment to dialogue on equal terms and her rejection of coercion.
On Wednesday, Ortega demanded the immediate repatriation of Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores, after their kidnapping in a U.S. military operation, and called the action excessive and a violation of sovereignty.
He also called for respect for the Venezuelan people, denounced U.S. threats against Cuba, and affirmed that the Cuban people are prepared to fight with unity against aggression from the U.S. military forces.
Meanwhile, Murillo reiterated that humanity demands peace and that Nicaragua has always defended its right to live with dignity. She noted that international institutions must guarantee equitable participation and peaceful coexistence among nations.
She urged the international community to demand respect, peace, and progress for small developing countries. Ortega greeted the people mobilizing around the world and within the United States against aggression, highlighting that many American citizens reject these crimes.
He noted that since the First and Second World Wars, there has been an instinct for the strong to dominate the weak, recalling that Latin America maintains the principle of not developing nuclear weapons as part of its principle of “Zone of Peace.”
Ortega stated that the UN must be refounded based on this principle and adapted to the current state of the world. He added that those who hold military power lack a humanist conscience, since they believe themselves to be “owners of the people and the land.”
