On Tuesday, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum reiterated her country’s historic stance against any form of foreign intervention in Venezuela.

During her morning news conference, she emphasized that Mexico’s foreign policy is guided by the principle of non-intervention and the defense of peoples’ self-determination.

“We are never going to support the intervention of a foreign government in a sovereign country. And I repeat, it is not only out of personal conviction, but because that must be the position of any Mexican president, since it is in the Constitution,” she said.

Her remarks come amid rumors circulating on social media and in some international outlets about a possible U.S. military operation against the Bolivarian nation.

Sheinbaum noted that while debate on social media is legitimate, certain political narratives are often amplified through bot and troll campaigns.

“There must be official information from governments, but social media is made for debate, based on information that is not false,” she said.

Sheinbaum’s comments echo those made recently by Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel and Colombian President Gustavo Petro, who also rejected any attempt at military or political intervention against the Venezuelan people and government.

On Monday night, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro declared that the inviolability of his country’s sovereignty is guaranteed by the indissoluble union of the armed forces, police, and the population.

“No one touches this land! I swear it! This land belongs to the liberators, it is sacred and blessed,” he said, adding that Venezuela “is a territory free of drug trafficking.”

The Bolivarian leader also confirmed that Venezuela’s national defense system, which has undergone an intense reorganization, is deployed around the clock with its full armed capacity.
