The opening takes place at the National Arts Center and includes conferences on strengthening the solidarity movement with Cuba and the demand to remove the island from the U.S. list of sponsors of terrorism.
In this international meeting, the challenges of disinformation campaigns, the media war against Cuba, and Latin American and Caribbean integration will also be adressed.
Aline Perez, an activist of the Mexican Movement of Solidarity with Cuba, stated the relevance of the meeting in a moment marked by the economic siege imposed by Washington on the country.
“Cuba is our beacon, and this event will also serve to show Cubans that they are not alone. May it also be a way to express our gratitude for all they offer to the world,” she said.
“It is essential that solidarity movements on the continent carry out their work in support of the Cuban Revolution in a more organized, thoughtful, articulate, and intelligent manner, in order to break the blockade and counter the media siege,” Perez added.
Attendees at the meeting will include the president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, Fernando Gonzalez, and the deputy director of the United States Office at the Cuban Foreign Ministry, Johana Tablada. Brazilian theologian Frei Betto, five-time Olympic champion Mijain Lopez and Haitian economist Camille Chalmers will also be at the event.
