Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum reported that 1,083 Mexicans have been detained in ICE operations in the United States between June 6 and October 5, 2025, as part of the intensification of immigration raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
During her morning conference, the president demanded that Donald Trump’s administration “look for another scheme” of care that does not victimize migrants.
Sheinbaum stressed that the Mexican consulates in the U.S. maintain contact with all detained nationals, some of whom have already been repatriated. Others remain in immigration detention centers. “We are against these raids that have been carried out on our compatriots and other nationalities,” she said.
“They are not criminals, they are workers who have moved America forward,” he added. In an international context, Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente reinforced this position before the United Nations (UN) on September 24, during the forum “In Defense of Democracy: Fighting Extremism.”
De la Fuente called the criminalization of migration “simply unacceptable,” advocating for the defense of migrants’ rights and robust multilateralism without veto rights in the Security Council. “It is impossible to conceive of a more democratic international community without robust multilateralism,” he said.
The foreign minister also reiterated Mexico’s historical opposition to the right of veto at the UN, considering it a limitation to global democracy. He defined democracy as “the power that emanates from the people,” a vehicle for guaranteeing social justice and rights in all its spheres
