Sheinbaum maintains open channels of dialogue with teachers.
On Wednesday, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum questioned the march called by teachers toward Mexico City Stadium, where the Uzbekistan vs. Colombia match is being played in the 2026 World Cup.

Besides asking what the purpose of the march was, Sheinbaum stressed that groups promoting radical actions no longer have majority representation among teachers. Nevertheless, her government maintains open channels of dialogue with teachers.
She noted that the leaders of the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE) have ongoing communication with the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Public Education, and the Institute for Social Security and Services for State Workers (ISSSTE).
Sheinbaum insisted that labor negotiations must be conducted with recognized union representatives, although she clarified that this does not preclude dialogue with other sectors.
However, Sheinbaum reiterated her support for the national teachers’ union and announced that she will seek to consult directly with teachers on pending issues related to the education and labor systems.
The CNTE’s mobilization comes after 16 days of a national strike, amidst demands related to pensions, social security, and the review of provisions inherited from previous reforms.
The protesters warned that if the federal government maintained police cordons around the protest encampment, they would “escalate” their protests. The strike coincides with the World Cup, with all media attention focused on Mexico and the arrival of thousands of tourists and fans to the country.
