The Gaza Strip was once again the scene of deadly Israeli airstrikes early Wednesday, with multiple attacks targeting areas previously designated as “safe zones” by Israeli authorities.
Dozens of Palestinians were killed or wounded, many of them children and internally displaced persons.
One of the deadliest strikes occurred in Al-Mawasi, west of Khan Yunis, where Israeli shelling hit tents sheltering displaced families. According to medical sources, six people were killed instantly, and dozens more were injured.
Al-Mawasi had been unilaterally designated by Israel as a humanitarian zone, yet it has been repeatedly bombed in recent weeks.
Another airstrike struck a residential home on Jaffa Street in central Gaza City, killing four members of the Zeno family: father Ahmed Ayyad, mother Ayat, and their daughters Zahra and Obaida. Emergency crews continue to search the rubble for additional victims.
In Deir al-Balah, Israeli drones targeted another tent near Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, injuring at least ten people. Drone fire was also reported in Al-Karama, northwest of Gaza City, causing further casualties.
The previous day, July 1, was described by Palestinian media as one of the bloodiest since the war began, with over 100 people killed in airstrikes and direct fire.
Since the start of the Israeli offensive on October 7, 2023, the death toll in Gaza has reached 56,647, with more than 134,000 injured, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health. Most of the attacks have struck densely populated areas, including hospitals, schools, and displacement camps, exacerbating what humanitarian agencies describe as an unprecedented catastrophe.
The United Nations and humanitarian organizations have repeatedly condemned the targeting of areas like Al-Mawasi, where more than 425,000 displaced Palestinians are now crammed into makeshift shelters with little access to water, sanitation, or medical care.
