Ben-Gvir claims that the detainees deserve conditions befitting terrorists.
On Wednesday, Israeli Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir posted a video humiliating detained activists from the Global Sumud Flotilla, labeling them “supporters of terrorism” and denying them any humanitarian treatment.

“Ben-Gvir released a video showing detained participants of the intercepted Gaza-bound flotilla being bound and dragged in Israel’s Ashdod Port, writing, ‘That’s how we welcome the terror supporters. Welcome to Israel’,” outlet Haaretz reported.
The footage prompted condemnation from Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, who called the display “shameful” and damaging to Israel’s international image.
The far-right Security Minister responded that Israel “is no longer a child who can be slapped,” reaffirming his confrontational stance amid the genocide in Gaza. Meanwhile, the Italian government summoned the Israeli ambassador in Rome to protest the treatment of the activists, who included citizens of 40 countries.
The Security minister had already visited activists imprisoned in the Negev desert in 2025, defending degrading detention conditions and stating that they “deserve terrorist conditions.” Flotilla activists deported to Turkey reported being kept with their hands tied, without water or food for up to 40 hours.
Since taking office, Ben Gvir has promoted policies of food shortages, hygiene deficiencies, and harsher conditions for Palestinian prisoners, in addition to pushing for the death penalty for those convicted of terrorism.
The crackdown on the Global Sumud Flotilla is part of a broader context of the Gaza blockade and the criminalization of international solidarity, reinforcing the Zionist narrative that links activism with terrorism.
