UN investigators accuse Israel of genocide as ground invasion intensifies.

On Tuesday, Gaza Civil Defense spokesperson Mahmoud Basal denounced that Israeli attacks have left approximately 75,000 people homeless in the Gaza Strip over the past week.

There has been devastating destruction across Gaza City since the Israeli occupation forces announced their offensive, which they dubbed “Opening of the Gates of Hell.”

“Twelve residential buildings over seven stories, containing roughly 500 apartments, were destroyed, displacing over 10,000 residents,” Quds News Network reported.

“More than 120 buildings under seven stories (average three floors each) were hit, displacing over 7,200 people. Over 500 buildings suffered partial damage, leaving around 30,000 people without shelter,” it added.

The Civil Defense spokesperson also said that more than 600 tents housing displaced families were destroyed, leaving about 6,000 people without any protection.

“Ten schools and five mosques were completely destroyed, leaving over 50,000 residents, including children, women, and the elderly, homeless amid a worsening humanitarian crisis,” Quds News Network reported.

Basal called on United Nations institutions and the international community to protect the Palestinian population by immediately stopping the Israeli aggression.

Despite all the damage caused by Israeli occupation forces since October 2023, Gaza City was home to almost a million people until mid-August when Israel announced its intention to invade the city. Since then, about 350,000 Palestinians have fled the city and moved south to avoid being killed.

The Israeli ground offensive coincides with a report from an independent UN International Commission of Investigation accusing Israel of perpetrating a genocide in Gaza.
