The Israeli military killed Izz al Din Al Haddad, a senior commander of Hamas’s armed wing, on Saturday. The Zionist regime had accused him of holding hostages in captivity and leading the Al Qassam Brigades following the death of Mohamed Sinwar in 2025.

The Israel Defense Forces and Shin Bet announced the assassination and a senior Hamas official also confirmed his death to a Sapnish news agency, calling him a “martyr.”

Reporters attended Al Haddad’s funeral Saturday at a mosque in the capital, where the bodies of his wife and daughter — also killed in the strike — were present. A total of seven people died in the bombing of a building in the Rimal neighborhood.

According to a Hamas source, Israel claimed Al Haddad was targeted because he was “the only one refusing to hand over the movement’s weapons, despite the movement’s flexibility in this regard.” The source added: “Even after attacking its political and field leaders, Hamas remains committed to the terms of the agreement. However, we emphasize that the mediators must appeal to Israel to adhere to what was agreed upon.”

The death toll in Gaza since the ceasefire began in October 2025 has now surpassed 850, including the seven killed in Friday’s strike.
