The Iranian Revolutionary Guard has announced its willingness to deepen strategic military cooperation with Yemen’s Houthi movement, framing the alliance as part of a broader struggle against “global imperialism and international Zionism,” in reference to the United States and Israel.

“The Revolutionary Guard, reaffirming its commitment to the lofty ideals of the martyrs of the ‘Axis of Resistance’ and the liberation of Jerusalem, declares its full readiness to strengthen spiritual and strategic ties with the Armed Forces of Yemen in the fight against global imperialism and international Zionism,” said Major General Mohammad Pakpour, commander of the Revolutionary Guard, as reported by ISNA.
In a message addressed late Sunday to General Yusuf Hasan al-Madani, the recently appointed Chief of Staff of Yemen’s Houthi forces, General Mohammad Pakpour commended the group for taking action against Israel insupport for Palestinians in Gaza. He also expressed sympathy over the death of former Houthi military chief General Mohammad Abdulkarim al-Ghamari, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike on October 16.
Iran maintains that it does not arm or fund the Houthis, dismissing allegations from Washington and other Western powers as politically motivated. The Yemeni movement is a key member of the “Axis of Resistance,” a regional alliance led by Tehran that also encompasses Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Palestine.
Following the outbreak of Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, Houthi forces began launching a wave of drone and missile attacks, striking both Israeli targets and commercial vessels linked to Israel in the Red Sea. These operations were part of their campaign in solidarity with Gaza. Their attacks persisted until a tenuous ceasefire was reached between Israel and Palestinian factions on October 10.
