Iran commenced a formal state tribute for assassinated Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei at a central Tehran mosque on Friday, drawing senior domestic officials and foreign envoys from nearly 100 countries, four months after his death on the first day of the U.S.-Israeli war of aggression.
The flag‑draped casket of the late ayatollah was moved to the Mosala mosque, where Iranian dignitaries and delegations from Russia, China, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and Morocco, among others, offered their respects to the cleric who had ruled as the Islamic Republic’s ultimate political and religious authority for over 36 years.

Among the overseas attendees confirmed by Iranian authorities are Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Georgia’s President Mikhail Kavlashvili, Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and China’s National People’s Congress Vice Chairman He Wei. Representatives from India, Afghanistan, and allied militant groups including Lebanese resistance Hezbollah also joined the ceremony.
The funeral observances also encompass several family members who perished alongside Khamenei on February 28, including his eldest daughter Boshra, granddaughter Zahra Mohamadi Golpayegani, son‑in‑law Mesbaholhoda Bageri Kani, and Zahra Hadad Adel—the wife of his son Mojtaba, who has since assumed the role of Supreme Leader.
Friday’s homage was closed to the public, but Iranian citizens will be allowed to file past the coffin at the Mosala mosque on Saturday and Sunday.
The following day, a funeral cortege will wind through the capital before heading to the religious hub of Qom for a similar procession. On Wednesday, the rites will move to Iraq, with planned ceremonies in the Shia holy cities of Karbala and Najaf, and the late leader is scheduled to be interred in his birthplace, Mashhad, on Thursday.
