Iran and the United States digitally signed a memorandum of understanding on Wednesday, with Presidents Masoud Pezeshkian and Donald Trump formally endorsing the document, according to Tehran’s foreign ministry spokesman.

The agreement took effect immediately, concluding months of Pakistan-mediated negotiations. Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei confirmed that while the text was finalized last Sunday, its official publication was delayed until Wednesday to accommodate standard diplomatic procedures and coordination with the mediators. He further noted that all substantive issues had been fully addressed in the final draft.

“We decided that we would not negotiate on the nuclear matter at this stage. The objective was to end the war, and we did that,” Baghaei explained.

Likewise, the memorandum includes, as a priority, respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Lebanon, as Israeli aggressions persist.

Baghaei explained that the decision to have the highest-ranking officials of both countries sign the document digitally was deliberate, noting that violations would carry greater political and diplomatic costs when committed against a pact endorsed at the presidential level. He cited past experiences as the rationale behind this approach.

The spokesman also clarified logistical arrangements, confirming that no physical signing ceremony will take place in Switzerland. He added that the presence of the Iranian negotiating team in Geneva remains on the agenda.
