Tehran and Moscow will give new impetus to their nuclear alliance during World Atomic Week, which will be held in the Russian capital from September 25 to 28 and will mark the 80th anniversary of the country’s nuclear industry.
The head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), Mohammad Eslami, confirmed that both nations will sign new agreements for the construction of 8 nuclear power plants and the expansion of joint projects.
Eslami, who heads the Iranian delegation, said that his agenda will include visits to factories and meetings with research institutes to strengthen scientific and educational cooperation.
He stressed that Iran maintains as a strategic goal the production of 20,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity from nuclear energy, with a defined role for Russia in the development of this capacity.
The official highlighted the progress in the construction of units two and three of the Bushehr nuclear power plant, calling the project a shared priority and directly supported by the presidents of both countries.
According to Eslami, bilateral cooperation has accelerated in recent months and ongoing talks are planned to deepen joint nuclear efforts.
The Moscow forum will bring together international experts and leaders of nuclear programmes to discuss the future of atomic energy, in a global context marked by the search for safer and more sustainable energy sources
