The Vice President of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Carlos Quintero, reported this Saturday that the voting for indigenous representation in the municipal councils will take place in locations across eight regions (Anzoátegui, Bolívar, Sucre, Amazonas, Apure, Monagas, Zulia, and Delta Amacuro).

The electoral body will set up 88 voting centers, with a total of 111 polling stations, which were fully installed by 10:00 local time (14:00 GMT) this Saturday, and will open from 7:00 (11:00 GMT) local time on August 3, the main director stated.

Quintero indicated that, for these elections, 4,061 community assemblies were held, in which 6,598 “spokespersons were chosen, who are the ones that tomorrow (Sunday), in a general assembly, will be electing the indigenous authorities.”

He also assured that Plan República, an operation led by the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) for the protection of voting centers and electoral material, “remains deployed in these (eight) states,” as added that the winners are expected to be proclaimed on Monday, August 4.

On July 27, some 6.27 million of the 21.5 million citizens who could vote participated in the election for mayors and municipal councils, giving it to the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) winner in 285 of the country’s 335 mayors.
