By January 20, the electoral authorities must rule on 2,792 tally sheets with inconsistencies.
On Friday, legislators from the Honduran Liberty and Refoundation Party (Libre) approved an initiative by Parliament President Luis Redondo to recount 100% of the ballots in the 2025 elections.

In October, Redondo established a Permanent Commission with nine Libre lawmakers, which prompted opposition members to declare its decisions “null” and to convene a parallel plenary session with more than 70 legislators.
On December 31, 2025, the National Electoral Council (CNE) declared the National Party candidate, Nasry Asfura, as the president-elect of Honduras. To date, however, the electoral authorities have not released the results for mayoral and congressional races.
Several of the 2,792 tally sheets with inconsistencies that were not reviewed were sent to the Electoral Court (TJE), which has until January 20 to issue a verdict, amid technical problems and internal conflicts among its members.
The text reads, “Today we arrived at the Electoral Court (TJE) to file an appeal requesting that the 435 tally sheets with inconsistencies, which give us the victory in the capital and which the National Electoral Council (CNE) left pending, be recounted. We are confident that the TJE will uphold those 100,000 votes that have not yet been counted, so that the popular will is respected.”
Redondo requested that the special commission attend the Prosecutor’s Office to demand criminal accountability from the CNE for not conducting a complete recount, for the corruption within the Preliminary Results Transmission System (TREP), and for the interference of U.S. President Donald Trump.
He clarified that he is not seeking to annul the elections, but rather to have all the tally sheets counted, and announced international action before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) to defend Honduran democracy and sovereignty.
Before the session, Representative Gladys Lopez, of the National Party, was injured by an explosive device thrown toward the Parliament building. She sustains head and back injuries, although she is now out of danger.
