The statement shared by the Honduran Armed Forces reflects the intention to enforce the instructions of the Constitutional President of the Republic and Commander of the Armed Forces, Xiomara Castro, where they confirm that “an exhaustive investigation has been initiated in order to identify and make available to the competent authorities any member of the military institution who is linked to or provides support to conspiratorial acts that seek to alter the process electoral or attack against the sovereign will of the Honduran people.”

The statement comes after a total of 24 audios were presented by the Public Prosecutor’s Office that reflect a plan to boycott the presidential elections and that link a military officer active in the plan. According to the Attorney General, Johel Zelaya, this military officer would be associated with a councilor of the CNE and a deputy of the National Congress for the information that revealed the evidence about the plot.

For this task, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Major General Roosevelt Leonardo HernĆ”ndez Aguilar, ordered the creation of a special commission in charge of gathering all the necessary information to clarify the suspicions about the participation of a member of this organization with other officials to “destabilize the democratic order of the country.”

The Honduran Armed Forces affirmed in this statement that “they will not allow any officer, non-commissioned officer, member of troops or auxiliary personnel to stain the honor, discipline and prestige that characterize our institution.”

Previously, President Xiomara Castro expressed on her account on the social network X that she condemns “with absolute firmness this criminal conspiracy aimed at provoking an Electoral Coup, as expressed by the Attorney General of the Republic.”

In the same way, the Armed Forces expressed that the “institution will act at all times in accordance with the Constitution and the laws, ensuring the integrity of the democratic process,” reaffirming its absolute respect for the sovereign will of the people.

The presidential elections are scheduled to be held on November 30 where the positions of president, three presidential appointees, the 128 deputies of Congress and the authorities of the 298 municipalities of Honduras will be decided
