Israeli ships are heading to intercept the Sumud Flotilla bound for Gaza with humanitarian aid, located about 130 nautical miles away at 3:43 a.m. local time, reported Spanish activist Néstor Prieto in a message sent to teleSUR.

He further stated that “emergency interception protocols have been activated on all vessels of the Global Sumud Flotilla.”
“According to the Israeli media, it is likely that the navy will deploy a large number of elite military units to carry out a ship-by-ship interception,” Prieto noted, warning that this could result in the detention of nearly 500 activists.
However, he clarified that “the situation is tense but calm; on all the ships, people are practicing the security protocols that have been rehearsed in recent weeks.”
In another report provided minutes later to teleSUR, Prieto explained that “the support previously offered by the corvettes and military vessels deployed by Spain, Italy, and Turkiye is no longer effective. In fact, the zone where those ships ceased to operate ranged between 150 and 120 nautical miles, depending on the country.”
Given this situation, he stressed, “we now find ourselves sailing alone with 45 ships, carrying 497 people of 46 nationalities.”
Publications from the humanitarian coalition cited reports outlining different scenarios, following Israel’s threats to treat the activists as terrorists.
“We have now entered the high-risk zone, the area where previous flotillas have been attacked and/or intercepted,” announced the organizers, while calling for vigilance.
Tel Aviv’s regime has previously intercepted and seized humanitarian vessels, citing reasons of national security and border control. The current situation has placed media and international observers on high alert.
The organizers of the Global Sumud Flotilla insist that this is a peaceful and humanitarian action, aimed at breaking the maritime blockade imposed by Israel since 2007 and drawing attention to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, which has worsened due to the genocidal campaign waged by the Zionist state against the Gazan civilian population since October 2023.
