FANB and Citizen Security Agencies Swear Allegiance to Delcy Rodríguez as Commander-in-Chief

In a ceremony of loyalty, recognition, and oath, led by the Minister of Defense, General-in-Chief Vladimir Padrino, in the Courtyard of Honor of the Bolivarian National Guard Military Academy at Fort Tiuna, Caracas, President Delcy Rodríguez received the recognition of the FANB and Citizen Security Agencies.

Accompanying the president were representatives from the five branches of the FANB, the President of the National Assembly (Parliament), Jorge Rodríguez, the Vice President for Politics, Citizen Security, and Peace, Captain Diosdado Cabello, intelligence agencies, the accredited diplomatic corps, and other civilian and military authorities.

As part of the protocol, Padrino presented Rodríguez with the Baton of Command and highlighted that, for the first time, a woman has assumed the presidency of the Republic and the title of Commander-in-Chief of the FANB. She stated that this symbol would be well cared for, recognizing “her virtues, integrity, and honesty, and that she will know how to take care of this nation.”

Likewise, the acting president was presented with a replica of the sword of the Liberator Simón Bolívar. In her remarks, Rodríguez expressed the honor she felt in being in charge during “an extraordinary and complex juncture” in the last two centuries of national history.

She said she came with the strength of history and the power of the Venezuelan people who, in the early morning of January 3rd, awoke to “a terrible external military aggression.”

The acting president paid tribute to the heroes and heroines of that day who fought and gave their lives, and conveyed her solidarity to the families and friends present.

She announced the decision to create a national office for security and defense, which will be attached to the Council of Vice Presidents and headed by the Minister of Science and Technology, Gabriela Jiménez.

She emphasized the resolve of the constitutional president, Nicolás Maduro, and the First Lady, Cilia Flores, and said he had no doubt about the victory, which “must be lasting so that the people can achieve peace and protect it.”

On behalf of the citizen security agencies and as “a demonstration of loyalty, commitment, and cohesion,” Cabello read the oath of that sector and quoted the Liberator Simón Bolívar in Angostura, when he said that “the unity of the homeland is the only path to peace, and unity must be our motto.”

The head of the FANB (National Bolivarian Armed Forces) affirmed that, in accordance with the Constitution, they were attending this ceremony of recognition her as Commander-in-Chief to swear an oath of discipline, obedience, and subordination.
